There’s still plenty of rain around but increasingly the sun has shown its face. A welcome entrance indeed. Here’s a quick look at my garden this week.
One

This one is a regular feature at this time of the year. It has been some years since I first planted a ring of ‘tête-à-tête’ around the persimmon tree and over time they have bulked at well. This is the best year yet.
Two

Back in Autumn last year I planted up six pots of various narcissi and tulips. The first has just opened up. It’s a pot of the most delicious miniature daffodils – n.cordubensis. The photo is not doing them justice but it’s raining again so no second chances!
Three

I’ve been overlooking the lovely dark red hellebore ‘Pretty Ellen’. She fills up a small corner to the side of the shed and really deserves a more prime position but at this time of the year as visits to the shed increase it is an added bonus to discover them again.
Four

The bergenia have been flowering for a few weeks, they are entirely neglected for most of the year and still do well in their shady spot.
Five

The euphorbia characias subsp. wulfenii, are hitting their stride, the lime green flowers shine out well in the gloom. I’m currently not having much need of their famed drought tolerance.
Six

Crocus tommasinianus ‘Ruby Giant’ is one I was planning to share last week. I’ve always wondered why it’s Red Giant when it is clearly purple.
I gave up my post last week as my Hemmingway Rewritten theme was not displaying accurately in the edit mode. Apparently it will look alright at the front end when I post. Here’s hoping. All looks well at Garden Ruminations so do stop in to Jim’s place and see all the other SOS posts. Here I will be hoping for some drying out time.
Your post looks good this end. Lots of hopeful spring flowers. The ring of mini daffs around the persimmon tree looks very impressive. ‘Tête-à-tête’ are such a good variety.

Looks just perfect to me! My sister in law in The Netherlands is called Ellen and I recently asked my brother to buy her hellebore for her as a gift. He bought five. 😁 Love the ring of daffs, just beautiful and so uplifting.

I agree with Fred on the narcissus. ring. It is lovely! Also, the crocua are a great color. I have a few here and there that came with the house, but I suspect that Farmer Squirrel has been replanting them as they seem to come up in a different place each year. I should get more and see if the squirrels leave them alone…

That is an impressive colony of ‘Tete a Tete’. Is ‘Red Giant’ the same as ‘Ruby Giant’?

lol. You are probably more accurate in your naming. I must check that one!

I have no luck with my bergenia, they are planted under my contorted hazel, but haven’t flowered since I planted them a couple of years ago. I don’t know what the problem is. I also like your ring of yellow. Dwarf narcissi are my favourites, the taller ones just collapse.

I wonder why your bergenia isn’t behaving. RHS suggests they are happy anywhere. I hope it comes good soon.

I wonder if it’s S&S damage? I might try lifting them and moving them. I have an unexpected space after I discovered my two Carex grasses have totally rotted over the winter.

I haven’t seen slug damage on mine, the leaves are so tough. I think they are easily moved so worth a try with them somewhere else

I noticed one in flower today, despite it having virtually no leaves! I must dig them up and give them a chance.

A lovely collection, especially those daffodils! Bergenia might be a good idea for the very shady spots of our garden, too.

I hope the bergenia works, it has large thick leaves so works as good ground cover too. Mine spill down a low wall a bit, helping to cover up that to.

The ring of tete-a-tete are so pretty! I also love the hellebore. I keep saying I will buy one but I never see them for sale in the garden cenetres I visit.

Thank you. The hellebores are so expensive here now. I have one variety that happily self seeds so I enjoy those all the more.

Hi nco, I’ve notice the price of plants have shot up here. In one garden centre the prices have more than doubled.
