I nearly gave up this week. The rain was so heavy this morning I didn’t think I would have the chance to take any photos and I only had one saved for this week. But there was a brief respite which gave the opportunity to take five more photos. I didn’t dither over what to choose as the next deluge threatened. Here they are.
One

The last of the apples were picked in the week and are being stored in boxes. The apples are wonderfully juicy.
Two

Trees. At this time of the year with the sun low in the sky it is quite late in the day before the garden brightens up. The trees make the garden shady but as the leaves turn they do put on a good show.
Three

About three weeks ago I took some root cuttings of the Japanese anemones and two of them have taken, Now I have the challenge of keeping them going over Winter.
Four

I suddenly realised that I do have some colour from flowers in the garden. The hesperantha, bowed down the rain but looking good.
Five

I have been waiting for a dry day to collect the seeds of the agapanthus. I’m still waiting.
Six

I think it was Hey Jude who warned that my epimedium in a planter might run riot. It has. It’s crowding out the ferns and a move will have to take place. When the rain stops!
It wasn’t so difficult after all. I doubt there will be any gardening this weekend, the soil is saturated and more rain is forecast. But all that I have to do can wait. My first batch of bulbs arrives next week and I have two new plants to fill in a few gaps. There’s something to look forward to. Check in with Jim, who reminds us that The Propagator founded this meme and that Jim is celebrating one year of taking on the hosting role. Congratulations and thank you Jim!
It is harder to find six things to post in these conditions, but you did well. I like the idea of the anemone cuttings.

Well done, I felt the same this week and I’m glad I made the effort, I’m glad you did too.

These apples are very beautiful, they look deliciously juicy. What variety? My epidemium doesn’t look as good. Maybe it’s too much in the shade. How is yours exposed to light?

Apples are Braeburn. Epimedium is very much in a shady corner. Against a wall so sheltered.

That’s a better lot of apples than I got from two whole trees. I have a couple of Epimediums in pots and if they run riot I shall be delighted. I struggle with all but the very common toughies in the ground.

Oh. I plan to break it up this week and move most to the ground. Fingers crossed then!

Nice….I like the agapanthus seeds, waiting……ever had any luck sowing? I’ve never managed to get any to germinate.
Here’s my offering:

I’ve had success a couple of times. Sadly I can’t remember if I sowed immediately or saved until Spring.

Those apples look delicious! I managed to get some gardening done this week in between showers, mostly cutting stuff back, but G.Rozanne continues to flower! Yesterday I planted all my new bulbs for spring, though still some of last years to find pots for. And this morning I was enchanted to see dozens of Goldfinches busily eating the seeds of my Verbena bonariensis. They love them!

So glad to hear you are enjoying the garden. Goldfinches are wonderful and to see dozens is thrilling.

Good looking 🍎 apples! Lovely hesperantha, I’ve not seen that before.

The hesperantha are good for late summer. I should add some more!

There’s something very pleasing about a wooden box full of apples.

Those are some good-looking apples! I laughed at your seed-collecting dilemma, because that’s been how the entire autumn has felt with seed collecting here as well.

Agapanthus are too easy to propagate by division to bother with seed. Is the seed just for growing large numbers of them? Are they true to type?

I’ve never had success with divisions! What am I doing wrong? Yes, I’d say they are true to type.

Gee, I can not imagine what could be done wrong. They recover so easily from division. The difficult part is the separation of the rhizomes. Yet, even if all the roots are severed to separate the rhizomes, the rhizomes just make more. Not only do all of mine grow, but the even more grow from bits of old rhizomes that I bury between the new rhizomes.

You put me to shame. Between a busy work week and the rain I ducked out of SonS this week.
In my experience when Epimediums are happy they’re very happy😂 but do give interest all year round. Your Hesperantha have done well.
