My great plans for last weekend were foiled by a heavy frost on Sunday so any garden work was limited to what could be done from the path. This led me to cutting out last year’s blackberry stems. It was a good job done. The weather improved a little for Monday which was installation day for the new greenhouse. All went smoothly and for the first time in years I have a leak free greenhouse. It’s yet another grim day here today and finding six delights is a challenge so here’s my scrappy six.
One

The new greenhouse of course. It’s first inhabitants are two pots of scented leaf pellies and a couple of trays of overwinter seedlings and some tiarella cuttings – or were they divisions?
Two

A little while back I reported that one of last summer’s Romanesco plants had decided to grow. This week it has been reduced to shreds. I don’t think it is going to make it to the dinner table. My first instinct was to blame the slugs but now I think it is probably the wood pigeons.
Three

My planting prowess has failed me once again. Here I seem to have replanted iris divisions on top of Thalia bulbs. This will be interesting.
Four

Last week I was bemoaning my lack of crocuses to The Quilting Gardener. This week I have spotted a few.
Five

The Siberian dogwood looked amazingly red today so although it is still a young plant it gets a look in.
Six

Lastly the viburnum flowers are opening up a little more.
There’s no frost forecast for tomorrow so I plan to start the cut back of the grasses. I’ve also marked out part of the lawn to become a flower bed. If I can fit it in I will lift the turf, all part of preparation for the planting of the recently purchased rowan tree.
I know Jim will have more to share so do drop by Garden Ruminations to his garden and all the other sixers. Happy gardening.
Very nice greenhouse! It looks a lot like mine. Do you also have another roof window with an automatic opening on the other side? It’s very practical for ventilation in the summer.
What a beautiful red colour this cornus , as well as the pretty viburnum :both are very beautiful plants in winter.

Yes. One automatic vent, one manual opener and some vents on the wall opposite the door. It’s in the morning shade but then gets evening sun so the temperature does build. When the sun shines!

Nice greenhouse! That will be fun to fill! Too bad about the naughty wood pigeons!

I share your frustration at planting in a location already occupied by a hibernating plant. A little hack I learned from the owner of Brent and Becky’s Bulbs in Gloucester, Virginia. He suggests inserting a colored golf tee where the bulb stems are disappearing.

That’s a good idea. Quite discrete too.

Yes, that greenhouse is splendid. Home garden greenhouses are enviable because I can not justify one here. I sometimes think that I should acquire more tropical species so that I would have use for a small greenhouse.

He can actually justify a greenhouse, though.

The greenhouse being complete is exciting enough for 6 shots of it alone! Getting the blackberries contained is a job, that’s good to have it all done.

And yesterday I tackled the grasses. With a few stops in the gh on the way.

That’s a wonderful greenhouse! And happy signs of the new growing season beginning. 🙂

If I seed failures I used to blame the draughty gh. No more excuses there!

I have greenhouse envy. What a wonderful haven to shelter from the weather …
Romanesco plant – I feel your pain.

I posted a comment on your site but got the message your comment could not be posted. Maybe it’s gone to your spam. I remember you had a similar problem commenting on my site. Just wanted to say I was inspired!

Hi N20. I am not sure what happens. I think it could be FireFox. the only way I can comment on some blogs is via Reader. I’ve tried to speak to WP about the problem but they just said my package does not include tech support. I

Another with greenhouse envy here! I think I would spend many a happy hour there, out of this bitingly cold wind. And I’m glad I’m not the only one whose planting prowess fails them:-)

It is a great place to be with its clean glass and no clutter!!

Oh, I think we all have greenhouse envy! Mine is greatly patched up. Storm Eowyn took out a good number of glass panes and a few have been replaced with glass, others, with perspex. Not a good look. Planting over bulbs is a skill I have too – your photo made me smile – I know, it’s not funny when it happens, but it probably does to all of us!

I’m hoping the storms have passed! It’s all a bit nerve wracking!

What a lovely greenhouse. I think we’ve all planted on top of bulbs.
